Abstract

Abstract
Many people living with diabetes have multiple annual hospital or outpatient clinic visits, which are time-consuming, e.g., due to travel and scheduling constraints. To enhance flexibility and minimize disruptions in daily life, a diabetes outpatient clinic has introduced video as an alternative to traditional consultations.
The aim of the study was to explore patients’ and nurses’ experiences with video consultations to inform the further development of virtual healthcare services.
In a Reflective Lifeworld Research-inspired analysis of 15 interviews, patients’ and nurses’ experiences with video consultations are described through: 1) video as a practical option, 2) what video can be used for, and 3) who can use video.
The study highlights clear benefits for patients, particularly in terms of convenience and accessibility. However, the study also identifies barriers for nursing staff that must be addressed to ensure the successful integration of video consultations into routine healthcare practice.
