Abstract

Hidradenitis suppurativa/acne inversa (HS) is a chronic, inflammatory, recurrent, debilitating skin disease of the hair follicle that usually presents after puberty with painful, deep-seated, inflamed lesions in the apocrine gland-bearing areas of the body, most commonly on the axillary, inguinal and anogenital regions.1 European studies estimate HS prevalence in various populations at 0.03-1%.2,3 The disease has an important negative impact on the quality of life and its treatment is challenging.
