    Personal profile

    Research interests

I am a professor of psychology at SDU and head of the Centre for Evidence-Based Psychiatry in Region Zealand, Denmark. My work bridges clinical practice and research, with a longstanding focus on strengthening evidence-based approaches in psychiatry and psychology at both national and international levels.
My primary research areas include ADHD and borderline personality disorder. I hold doctoral degrees in medicine, psychology, and health sciences. My medical doctorate examined the benefits and harms of methylphenidate in ADHD treatment, the doctorate in health science focused on social skills training for children with ADHD while my psychology doctorate addressed methodological challenges in clinical trials of psychotherapy for individuals with borderline personality disorder. My work, often published as systematic reviews and meta-analyses, has contributed significantly to the field and is frequently cited internationally.
I have played a central role in the development of national clinical guidelines in collaboration with the Danish Health Authority and several regional bodies. I also teach ethics in psychiatry, research ethics, and mental health law at Danish universities and am increasingly involved in scholarly work on psychiatric ethics, including upcoming book chapters on the topic.
I serve as founding editor-in-chief of an international peer-reviewed journal in child and adolescent psychiatry and psychology and have organized a national conference in this field for many years.
    Current projects include:
Two Cochrane systematic reviews on psychotherapeutic treatment for PTSD in children and adolescents.
A 12-month randomized controlled trial (currently in the funding application phase) investigating medical treatment for adults with ADHD, including both an inert placebo and an active placebo arm.
Principal investigator of an ongoing pilot and feasibility trial testing external trigeminal nerve stimulation (eTNS) for children with ADHD.
At the Centre for Evidence-Based Psychiatry, I supervise two PhD students conducting individual patient data (IPD) meta-analyses investigating moderators of treatment effect in psychotherapy for individuals with borderline personality disorder.
My goal is to ensure that psychiatric interventions are grounded in the best available evidence and that this knowledge is made accessible to clinicians, researchers, and policymakers alike.
