Organisation profile

The Lolland-Falster Health Study (LOFUS) is a research unit organised under the Centre for Health Research, Zealand University Hospital, Nykøbing F. The LOFUS survey is a household-based population study, which collected data from 8 February 2016 to 13 February 2020. Citizens in Lolland and Guldborgsund municipalities were invited after random selection in the Danish Civil Registration System.

Totally 19,000 citizens aged 0-96 years participated and 10,400 households were represented in LOFUS. The data collection consisted of questionnaires, a series of health examinations, and collection of biological material. Blood, urine, saliva, and faeces were stored in Region Zealand's Biobank for use in future research, and data are stored in a research database. LOFUS collaborates with sub-projects within various research disciplines and is happy to accept applications from interested researchers. Region Zealand, Nykøbing F. Hospital, Lolland Municipality, and Guldborgsund Municipality financed the LOFUS data collection.

LOFUS is approved by Region Zealand's Ethical Committee on Health Research (SJ-421) and is registered in the Danish Data Protection Agency (p-2024-16360) and in ClinicalTrials.gov (NCT02482896).
