    Abstract

Liver function tests were measured in a group of 73 patients with varying degrees of uremia and 65 patients on chronic hemodialysis. Aspartate aminotransferase (ASAT) activities and bilirubin concentrations fell with increasing uremia and alkaline phosphatase activities rose. Levels of pyridoxine were normal or above normal in patients on hemodialysis. This investigation shows that bilirubin activities in uremia are a function of anemia and that ASAT activities do not seem to be explainable by pyridoxine deficiency.
