Organizational Learning in Digital Transformation: Investigating Work Practices and Technology Integration in a Hybrid Hospital-at-Home Model

Projektdetaljer

Lægmands beskrivelse

Healthcare delivery in Denmark is undergoing a profound transformation. At the eHospital in Region Zealand, patients receive the same level of hospital care in their own living rooms, with nurses monitoring conditions through video calls and doctors making treatment decisions from a distance. This isn't a distant possibility - it's happening right now across Danish homes.
The Challenge We're Investigating: Denmark faces an unprecedented demographic shift. By 2070, nearly half a million more elderly citizens will need care whilst the working-age population shrinks. Traditional hospital-based care is reaching its limits, and the eHospital represents a viable solution: maintaining the quality and safety of hospital care whilst treating patients in their own homes. However, this digital transformation isn't simply about installing new technology - it fundamentally changes how healthcare professionals work, communicate, and care for patients.
What We're Discovering: This study follows healthcare workers as they navigate this new world of “virtual wards” and home-based treatment. We’re exploring how nurses adapt their bedside manner to video screens, how doctors make critical decisions without physically examining patients, and how entire care teams coordinate treatment across digital platforms. Moreover, we’re analysing how professional relationships evolve when care happens through screens, and how patients and families experience this new model of treatment.
Through participatory research methods, we’re not merely observing these changes – we’re working alongside healthcare professionals to understand their challenges and co-create solutions.
